Diplomat Oleh Shamshur stated this on Espreso TV."If you look at Trump's position, it is clear that everything goes through his respect for Putin and leaders similar to Putin, and he believes that without an agreement, some sort of deal with Putin, stopping the war is absolutely impossible. This is an illusion from the point of view of Russia's interests and behavior, but it is in Trump's head and he believes it," Shamshur emphasized.According to the diplomat, Putin is interested in a ceasefire only when he deems it necessary. The Russian dictator has an interest in gaining a respite and also in realizing his goals, at least some of them, by diplomatic means."Trump should understand that as well. In this context the main task now is to stop Putin as soon as possible and in such a way as to deprive him of the ability to dictate the terms of any negotiations. But for now we must admit that this is happening according to Putin's script — precisely because he believes he can advance and achieve his military‑strategic goals," Shamshur added. On August 27, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Vladimir Putin should be carefully prepared, but Moscow cannot yet set a date.
