This opinion was expressed by Ukrainian MP Fedir Venislavskyi, a member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense, and Intelligence, on Espreso TV."I think that the probability of the meeting (between Zelenskyy, Trump, and Putin – ed.) after the meetings in Alaska and Washington, a possible meeting, I hope, exactly in a trilateral format with the participation of President Trump, and ideally also with our European partners, the leaders of European countries, is quite high. Because we see the sequence of actions of the President of the United States, Mr. Trump, who both during the election campaign and after returning to the White House, to the Oval Office, declared that he would make systematic efforts to stop the war. And before meeting with Putin, he practically announced the sequence of actions we are now witnessing. Namely, the first meeting would be in the Putin–Trump format, the second meeting Trump–Zelenskyy, and the third one already Zelenskyy–Trump–Putin. I think that by the end of this month, by the end of August, within the next 10 days, there is a fairly high probability that such a meeting will take place," he said.At the same time, Fedir Venislavskyi noted that at this moment the positions of the Ukrainian and Russian sides differ regarding the sequence of actions."Because we are calling, and President Zelenskyy constantly emphasizes this, to stop hostilities first, and only then hold negotiations about some format of a post-war peace agreement. Putin, on the contrary, says: let’s sign documents immediately and only then cease hostilities. It is very difficult to talk about concessions or compromises when fighting is ongoing, when, as we see from the reports of our General Staff and the Institute for the Study of War, certain settlements periodically fall under the control of the Russian occupation machine and then return under the control of Ukrainian Armed Forces. So it is quite complicated," the MP said.He stressed that the priority is to stop hostilities."But the probability of negotiations, in my opinion, is currently quite high. I think that in the near future they should take place, and we will seek to stop hostilities. After that, we will see what format is acceptable for Ukraine and what is not, and what Putin wants. Putin has voiced his maximum demand. It is unacceptable for us, as well as for our American and European partners. And this was clearly articulated during the meetings and conversations, including after President Zelensky’s meeting and in Trump’s follow-up phone call. But let’s see – in the near future, I think everything will become clearer, and we will have a more precise picture of how events will develop," Venislavskyi added. On August 18, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived at the White House, where he was met by U.S. President Donald Trump. The leaders first held a bilateral meeting in the Oval Office, and then met with European leaders and NATO Secretary General. Negotiations then continued in a different format. Following the talks, Trump announced that preparations had begun for a meeting between Zelenskyy and Putin.U.S. President Donald Trump, after the meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European leaders, held a phone call with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy declared he was ready for a bilateral meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin without any preconditions.Later, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Russia does not rule out bilateral or trilateral peace talks with Ukraine.
