Vadym Skibitskyi, deputy head of the Ukraine's Defense Intelligence, sahsred the information in a comment to Suspilne. “They remain in the Kursk region, generally in the European part of Russia. At the training grounds where these four brigades have been created, they stay there. That’s about 11,000 service members. And it’s clearly defined that their main area of responsibility is the Kursk and Belgorod regions. We saw this both from how they are used in combat and from their presence specifically in this region,” he said.Skibitskyi emphasizes that Moscow and Pyongyang have concluded an agreement under which another 6,000 North Korean military personnel will arrive in Russia — carrying out engineering work, demining, and, in particular, restoring infrastructure.“We expect the arrival of the first batch, about 1,200 servicemembers of the North Korean armed forces, specifically to the Kursk region,” the deputy head of intelligence added.According to him, the main outcome for the DPRK from cooperation with Russia is experience in modern warfare.“This is a modern war, a modern conflict. And in addition to Russia and Ukraine, North Korea is now being added here. For the region — Japan, South Korea, even China and other countries — North Korea is now one of the most knowledgeable countries regarding a modern military conflict. In particular, concerning the use of FPV drones and other drones, combining them with artillery systems, conducting reconnaissance, and tactics for employing units in assault operations, etc. This is a very significant experience for North Korea,” Skibitskyi explained.North Korea may deploy additional military units on Russia’s side as early as July–August 2025 amid deeper military-technical cooperation between Pyongyang and Moscow.
