The president of Ukraine wrote about the call on social media.Zelenskyy described the conversation with Trump as productive. One of the main topics discussed by the leaders was ending the Russia-Ukraine war."We are grateful to the U.S. president for all efforts toward a just and lasting peace. Indeed, the killings must stop as soon as possible, and we fully support that. The war could have already ended months ago if the Russians hadn’t prolonged it," Zelenskyy noted. He added that he and the American leader managed to coordinate the two countries' positions. The presidents exchanged assessments of the situation, and Zelenskyy emphasized that Russia had intensified its attacks."President Trump is fully informed about the Russian strikes on Kyiv and other cities and communities. Of course, we also discussed sanctions against Russia. Their economy continues to collapse, and that’s why Moscow is watching the prospect of Trump’s decisiveness closely. This could change a lot," the Ukrainian president emphasized. The two leaders also discussed joint European decisions that could support Ukraine’s defense. Zelenskyy noted that the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, and Denmark have already committed over $1 billion for U.S.-made weapons that Ukraine will receive. According to him, this cooperation with NATO countries will continue."We also talked about our bilateral defense cooperation with the U.S. The drone agreement project has already been prepared by the Ukrainian side, and we are ready to discuss it in detail and finalize it. It could become one of the strongest agreements. I thank every American heart that supports our defense of lives," the Ukrainian president added.A month earlier, on July 4, the presidents of Ukraine and the U.S. also held a phone call during which they discussed protecting Ukrainian airspace. It was reported that Trump stated during the conversation that Washington wants to help Ukraine with air defense amid escalating Russian attacks. The call lasted about 40 minutes.
