He made the comments during a briefing on the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ performance in July.According to Syrskyi, the past month was extremely tense for Ukrainian troops, especially in the east, where Russian occupiers attempted to push forward along nearly the full contact line.“Our troops bravely repelled enemy attacks. The Russians are using a 'death by a thousand cuts' tactic—small assault groups for continuous pressure. The most difficult situation is in the Pokrovsk, Dobropillia, and Novopavlivka directions. At the same time, we’ve made gains in the Sumy sector, liberating parts of Sumy region and continuing operations in the Kursk area,” Syrskyi said.He emphasized that in response to increased Russian shelling of Ukraine’s rear infrastructure and civilian cities, Ukraine is boosting its air defense systems and expanding the use of drone-based aerial interceptors. In July, Ukraine also made visible progress using DeepStrike capabilities, Syrskyi said. Dozens of Russian military-industrial targets were hit, including weapons storage facilities—like Shahed drone depots—airfields, training grounds, and defense, electromechanical, chemical, and oil refining plants.Syrskyi added that improvements to UAV command and control systems have led to a second consecutive month of significant gains in enemy destruction and improved infantry support on the battlefield.Russia’s total losses in July exceeded 33,200 troops—800 more than in June.“Despite this, the enemy adds 9,000 troops to its ranks each month. Russia plans to form 10 new divisions by year’s end—two are already operational. We have no choice but to continue mobilization efforts, improve combat training, and strengthen our drone capabilities,” he stressed. The Commander-in-Chief also noted that corps-level reform is ongoing in Ukraine’s military, with most newly formed army corps having accepted responsibility for designated sectors and units.“During the meeting, we also reviewed the status of troop training, logistics, equipment repairs, fortifications, and military discipline. I paid particular attention to safety measures for personnel at training centers and ranges. We understand the situation—and we know what needs to be done,” Syrskyi concluded.
