The Ukrainian State Film Agency reported the incident, highlighting the studio’s historic and cultural importance as one of the oldest and most significant film studios in the world.“During the night of July 30 to 31, a large-scale missile strike by the aggressor state damaged the territory of the Dovzhenko National Film Studio,” Film Agency stated. With over a century of history, the studio stands as a symbol of Ukrainian culture and identity. Filmmakers created legendary works there, including Earth, Enthusiasm: Symphony of the Donbas, and Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors — films that earned international acclaim and became cinematic classics. The missile strike shattered nearly 90 windows, damaged the studio’s production buildings, and hit part of a nearby hotel. No one suffered injuries in the attack.
Film Agency described the damage as the most extensive the studio has experienced since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion. The agency emphasized that the destruction goes beyond material loss and reflects a deliberate effort to erase Ukraine’s cultural memory and identity — shaped over generations.“Russia once again shows that it wages war not only against the Ukrainian people, but also against Ukraine’s heritage, culture, and future,” Film Agency added.
