State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce said this during a July 2 press briefing.Bruce stressed that U.S. support remains firm despite reports of paused shipments, including critical Patriot air defense missiles.“This is not a cessation of us assisting Ukraine,” Bruce said. “This is one aspect, one situation, one event that has been changed.”She added that Washington still has “multiple robust other options and efforts” to support Ukraine, though did not provide further details.Bruce also rejected the idea that the pause would embolden Russia. “We haven’t paused sending weapons to Ukraine,” she said. “President [Trump] has also indicated his remaining commitment regarding Patriot missiles.”The Pentagon echoed that message, saying the U.S. is reviewing weapons deliveries to all allies to make sure they align with its defense needs.“We see this as a commonsense, pragmatic step,” said Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell. “Let it be known that our military has everything it needs to conduct any mission anywhere, anytime.”Ukraine criticized the pause, calling it a setback in defending against Russian attacks. The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry summoned a U.S. diplomat, warning the move could “encourage” Moscow.Bruce maintained that President Trump is still committed to helping Ukraine, noting his condemnation of Russia’s targeting of civilians as “unacceptable.”The United States has suspended deliveries of certain air defense missiles and precision-guided munitions to Ukraine over concerns about shrinking U.S. stockpiles.
