Ukrainian lawmaker Oleksandr Merezhko said this on Espreso TV."Fortunately, for Trump, I don’t exist at all. However, withdrawing the decision to nominate Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize was my personal decision, just as it was to nominate him in the first place. I did this as a member of parliament and as a professor of international law. According to the rules of the Nobel Peace Prize, professors of international law are eligible to make nominations," Merezhko explained. The MP stated that there are clear signs that Donald Trump is not trying to achieve a just peace for Ukraine."I had hoped that it would be possible to convince Donald Trump to strive for a just peace for Ukraine and to stop Russian aggression. This peace should have been based on international law and the UN Charter. I had such hopes at the very beginning. Unfortunately, Trump decided to take a different path. He had a choice: to become a new Roosevelt or a Neville Chamberlain. Today, there are signs that he chose the latter. There was another sign. Today, Ukraine is the victim of daily attacks on its civilian population. Unfortunately, Donald Trump simply does not react to this, as if it does not exist. His representatives talk about restraint on both sides. This is an attempt to put the aggressor and the victim of aggression on the same level," he added. On June 25, it became known that Ukrainian MP and Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Foreign Policy Oleksandr Merezhko had nominated U.S. President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, but later withdrew his nomination.
