This was stated by Dmytro Yefremov, an expert with the Ukrainian Association of Sinologists and Associate Professor in the Department of International Relations at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, during an interview with Espreso TV.“It is now clear that China has a final interest in the Russian-Ukrainian war. Beijing is interested in ensuring the war continues. It is absolutely indifferent to who will win – Ukraine or Russia. China only cares that the U.S. and Europe focus on this side of Eurasia, rather than on Southeast Asia, particularly Taiwan and the region, which is of utmost priority to Beijing. There, China is trying to promote itself, its influence, and make it unquestionable, so that other countries do not even think about challenging it. This is where all of China’s efforts are currently directed,” explained Yefremov. The expert emphasized that China does not publicly support and will not support Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.“Essentially, China is doing everything possible to keep other players as far away from its region as possible. If Russian aggression against Ukraine allows this, then Beijing will support this intervention. China will not publicly support such actions, but it will act in ways that prolong the war,” he added. On April 17, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that China is supplying Russia with weapons, including gunpowder and artillery. On June 26, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian claimed that Beijing had never supplied weapons to either side in the war in Ukraine.
