Details: Duda is convinced that the chance for peace in Ukraine is linked to the US leader.
Regarding the talks with Vladimir Putin, President Duda is confident that Donald Trump understands who the Russian leader is.
Duda says Trump's banning of Nord Stream 2 during his first term and thwarting Putin's energy ambitions through his state-owned energy giant Gazprom are proof enough that he knows where to hit to hurt.
Given European leaders' failure to negotiate peace based on the Minsk agreements, he believes the onus is now on Donald Trump.
Quote from Andrzej Duda:"If anyone is able to force the end of Russia's war, it is most likely only the President of the United States. The question is whether he will be determined enough to do that in a way - because it is also very important here in Europe being a neighbour of Russian aggression against Ukraine - that the peace is fair and lasting."
Background:
- White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said that Donald Trump repeatedly expressed disappointment with both Russia's and Ukraine's actions in the ongoing war.
- Сertain actions and statements by US Presidential Envoy Steve Witkoff regarding the settlement of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine have drawn criticism in the White House and among Republicans.
