Russia has launched nearly 70 missiles and over 2,200 Shahed drones on Ukraine in one month of "ceasefire" – Ukraine's foreign minister

Exactly one month ago, Ukraine accepted a US proposal to implement a 30-day ceasefire. In response, Russia launched nearly 70 missiles and over 2,200 Shahed drones against Ukraine during that time.

Source: Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha on X (Twitter)

Quote: "Today marks exactly one month since Russia refused to accept a full interim ceasefire proposed by the United States. Exactly one month ago, on March 11th in Jeddah, Ukraine agreed to such a proposal. Unconditionally. Russia refused to agree, instead putting forward conditions and demands. At the same time, Russia continued to escalate its terror against civilians.

From March 11 to April 11, Russia shot at Ukraine almost 70 missiles of various types, over 2,200 Shahed drones, and more than 6,000 guided aerial bombs. These were Russian responses to peace proposals. This is typical of Russia: lying, manipulating and continuing terror."

Details: Sybiha emphasised that Russia remains the only obstacle to peace and the sole source of war. He urged that the world must not wait another month to increase pressure on Moscow, stressing that Russia must feel real strength before it will take peace seriously.

Background:

  • On 4 April, the Russian forces carried out a ballistic missile strike on a residential neighbourhood in the city of Kryvyi Rih, killing 20 people, including nine children, and injuring over 60.
  • President Volodymyr Zelenskyy criticised the world's inadequate response to the Russian attacks, noting that the number of aerial strikes was increasing. "This is how Russia reveals its true intentions – to continue the terror for as long as the world allows it," he stated.
  • French President Emmanuel Macron called for an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine and said that Russia, by continuing its attacks, was mocking peace proposals.
  • US President Donald Trump urged Russia to stop its attacks on Ukraine. The Kremlin, meanwhile, claimed that Russian leader Vladimir Putin "supports the idea of a ceasefire in Ukraine, but a number of issues must first be addressed".
  • On 8 April, Trump stated he was not happy with Russia’s recent escalation of attacks on Ukraine.
