The 10-year cooperation and mutual support agreement signed with Albania will require ratification and formalises support for Ukraine throughout its duration.

Details:Zhovkva highlighted that the agreement with Albania was signed as part of the G7 Declaration of Support for Ukraine and marks the 28th such agreement.

Quote:"It has been established that Albania has already made significant military contributions to Ukraine, both bilaterally and within multilateral frameworks, and will continue to meet Ukraine’s most urgent needs, as it did in 2022–2024, for the 10-year duration of the agreement." 

More details: Among the provisions, Zhovkva highlighted the possibility of Albania closing its ports to Russian vessels "until Ukraine’s territorial integrity is restored and a just and lasting peace is achieved". Additionally, the agreement prioritises Tirana’s support for Kharkiv.

"This is the third such agreement requiring ratification by both countries, making it legally binding for both Ukraine and Albania," Zhovkva emphasised.

Background:

• As previously reported, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama signed the bilateral agreement on long-term cooperation and support on Tuesday, 21 January.
• Under the agreement, Albania will join the so-called fighter jet coalition and assist in training Ukrainian pilots.
