Zelenskyy reveals details of talks on Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that there has been no consensus on Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) in talks on a ceasefire in Russia's war against Ukraine, but if the plant remains under Russian control, it will not operate.

Quote: "The Russians want to keep the plant for themselves. Obviously we are against this. And we have said that if that is the case, then the plant will not operate."
Details: Zelenskyy noted that the US position is to establish a joint format for managing the plant.
"Our position here is very simple. If the Americans can take the plant under their control and somehow demilitarise this area, that is, Russian troops must withdraw from the plant to a certain distance, then there will be an opportunity for Ukraine to have access to the plant," Zelenskyy said, adding that after these steps joint management of Zaporizhzhia NPP could be discussed.
He stressed that the Russians see Zaporizhzhia NPP as their own property and are not inclined to make concessions.
"If the Americans can take the plant under their control, then it is clear what their share in the plant means; it is their influence, it is their money, and what is ours is ours.
And therefore, as of now, what kind of consortium this might be for the plant, how all this can be implemented, how to restart operations and how to manage it are still difficult to say. All this is under discussion," the president concluded.
Background: On 6 December, Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, reported that Zaporizhzhia NPP had temporarily lost all external power supply during the night, for the eleventh time since Russia's full-scale invasion.
