Wartime elections: what do they really mean?

1. Elections require a truce. This is, in fact, a basic element for holding elections. Therefore, this alone casts doubt on the very idea of elections.2. The election results will mean that whoever wins will sign a peace treaty (it is unlikely that its terms will globally differ from what they are now). Consequently, the composition of election participants, if they happen, may differ significantly from those currently measured by sociologists. "This, in turn, will make the elections quasi-legitimate. However, society will certainly enter a period of extreme turbulence. Unfortunately, so will the army."3. Russia will push for the position they have long held: first a treaty, then elections, then the signing of the treaty by the new president. And that is why I do not believe, at least for now, in elections under the formula: truce — elections — treaty. The Russians simply don't need it.SourceAbout the author: Vadym Denysenko, political scientist. The editorial board does not always share the opinions expressed by blog authors.
