Diplomat Oleksandr Matsuka, head of the UN Security Council Secretariat (2009–2016), stated this on Espreso TV."Currently, there is some pressure on Ukraine to agree to Trump's 'wonderful' plan. The main goal is for Ukraine to independently agree to surrender territories, that is, to transfer them to Russia. And there is an American interest in this," Matsuka emphasized.According to the diplomat, in 2017, the U.S. Congress adopted a law according to which the United States of America will never recognize Russia's illegal annexation of Crimea or the separation of any part of Ukrainian territory by military force. And this is a very important nuance."That is, if Ukraine officially renounces these territories itself, agreeing to give them away, then the U.S. will be able to freely recognize their status and conduct any deals with Russia. If Ukraine does not agree and does not renounce the territories, then a problem arises, because the law remains in force. And although Trump often disregards American legislation, he himself signed this law, which makes it difficult for him to abandon it," Matsuka explained. The diplomat summarized that this is precisely why such strong pressure is being exerted on the Ukrainian authorities - so that they voluntarily give up their territory. Then it will be possible to say that Ukraine did it itself.U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Moscow allegedly agreed to his proposed plan for settling the war, while Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has not even reviewed the document.
