US President Donald Trump has stated during the ceremony to switch on the Christmas tree lights in Washington that the Russo-Ukrainian war will eventually be resolved.

Quote from Trump : "We're making peace all over the world. We're settling wars at levels that nobody's ever seen before, eight of them. We're looking for one more [way to resolve the war], that's Russia-Ukraine, if that's possible, and I think we'll get there eventually."

Details : Trump also emphasised that thousands, even tens of thousands of soldiers are dying in the war in Ukraine and this needs to stop. According to the president, the US is working on this issue.

Background :

• Trump stated that his Special Envoy Steven Witkoff and son-in-law Jared Kushner believe that Russian leader Vladimir Putin would like to end the war, although he does not know what will happen next.
• The White House previously reported that Witkoff and Kushner briefed Trump and the Ukrainian side on the results of their talks in the Kremlin on 2 December.
• Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said that US representatives had informed the Ukrainian side about the outcome of the talks in Moscow.
• He also added that the Ukrainian delegation in the "peace plan" talks had received an invitation to the US for a new round of discussions following the meetings in the Kremlin.
