Fighting has already begun in Lyman, Siversk, Kostiantynivka and continues in Kupiansk, Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad. The latest and so far largest Russian advance was their 10-kilometer breakthrough to Huliaipole and the beginning of battles for this city.In November, the Russian army occupied 505 square kilometers, which is an average figure during the summer offensive, but this is twice as much as in October or September.
40% of the occupation falls on the Zaporizhzhia region, although only 16% of battles took place here, which indicates inadequate preparation for defense. In second place is the Kharkiv border area, where due to the absence of defensive lines they can cross the border without heavy battles, but have no advancement beyond 4-5 km deep into Ukraine. Another 11% of occupation consists of territories around Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad, and it is here that over 30% of all clashes on the front occur daily. All other sections of the front experienced insignificant changes. This especially applies to the Dnipropetrovsk region, where the Ukrainian Armed Forces not only withstand the assault but also conduct local counteroffensives.
Recently, his loyal Chief of General Staff Gerasimov once again reported to Putin about the capture of Pokrovsk. And as proof, he provided a video where two soldiers unfurl a tricolor cloth in the city center. Yes, indeed, Russian forces are increasingly capturing central blocks. However, the Ukrainian Defense Forces have established a control line along the railway track and have fortified themselves in the northern part of the city, which has many multi-story buildings where defense can be held for a long time. Despite the fact that Russians constantly try to cross the railway and infiltrate the northern blocks and even further to cut off logistics, for the most part this is a one-way ticket for them. Although in the area of the railway station, Russian forces managed to break through further north and capture several blocks between the railway and the road leading to Rivne and Myrnohrad.
Fire encirclement of MyrnohradWhile the right flank of Ukrainian defense in Hryshyne is reliably defended, Russian forces have concentrated their efforts on the section of the front between the settlements of Rodynske, Chervonyi Lyman, and the village of Rivne. The struggle for this piece of territory is decisive for maintaining defense in Myrnohrad. While the city is under fire encirclement, this is precisely the safety zone through which the defenders of Myrnohrad will be able, albeit under fire, to exit the city. If Russians manage to establish themselves in Rivne, then breaking through will require fighting. By the way, ground logistics to Myrnohrad are now almost completely transferred from people to drones, both ground and aerial.
Currently, there are no Russian forces in Rivne, but they are present very nearby and make regular attempts to penetrate the village from both the south and north. On the northern outskirts of Pokrovsk, Russian assault groups are trying to reach Rodynske. In some places, the distance between the gray zone, where Russian forces have already been recorded, is less than 1 km.Complex counter-battles are being fought for Chervonyi Lyman. Russian forces want to establish themselves here, while the Armed Forces of Ukraine understand that the town is the key to stabilizing defense in Myrnohrad. Ideally, the Defense Forces want to push Russian forces back 3-4 km to the east, pressing them to the Kazennyi Torets River, but this has not been successful so far. This is probably related to the statement by the Commander of Airborne Assault Forces Apostol, who announced the end of the counteroffensive operation near Dobropillia. The freed reserves may be directed precisely to Chervonyi Lyman and Rodynske. While the Defense Forces are fighting for control over the north of Myrnohrad, Russian forces are gradually pushing through its southern blocks. Having completely captured the villages of Promin and Kozache, Russian forces turned the entire southern part of the city into a gray zone and established themselves on the eastern outskirts. In case of further advancement to the west, the entire southern territory between Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad in the area of the villages of Novopavlivka and Sukhyi Yar will be under threat of complete capture. Already now, very few Ukrainian positions remain here.
The question of withdrawing Ukrainian troops from this area and transferring them to other positions that can still be held has been raised repeatedly. But this is not happening yet, as holding Sukhyi Yar prevents Russian forces from approaching Myrnohrad closely from the south and actually gives additional time for the city's defenders.Battle for Huliaipole has begunIn the Zaporizhzhia region, the battle for Huliaipole has begun. After a rapid breakthrough of the Ukrainian defense line along the Yanchur River, in a month Russians covered more than 10 km and reached the southeastern outskirts of the city. Before that, they semi-encircled and pushed through Ukrainian defenses in Zeleny Hai and Vysokе, which had been held here since 2022. It is from this flank that Russian forces are trying to infiltrate the first streets located on the left bank of another river – the Haichur. This river, along which the Armed Forces of Ukraine are now building a new front line, runs through Huliaipole. And therefore, the Defense Forces are unlikely to be able to hold the left-bank part for long. But Russians also do not yet have enough forces to launch a full-scale assault on the city, as they lost a lot breaking through the previous defense line.
A weak point in Huliaipole's defense may be the fact that since 2022, Russian forces have been present on the right bank of the Haichur as well, particularly in the Marfopol area. And at a certain time, they may begin an offensive on the city from the south as well. However, this is unlikely to happen before they encircle the city from the north. The Armed Forces of Ukraine managed to stabilize the front north of Huliaipole, but it is gradually approaching the Huliaipole-Pokrovske highway, behind which on the heights Ukrainian last powerful defense line in this area is built. Although the road itself and the villages on it will also be obstacles that Russian forces still need to overcome.Currently, Russian forces have straightened the front line in the Rivnopillia area and will continue this work, directing their attacks on Solodke and further north to the borders of Dnipropetrovsk region, where for a long time Ukrainian heroes have been holding the remnants of defensive positions along the Yanchur River, as well as in the area of the villages of Yehorivka and Danylivka, which may become key in the defense of both Zaporizhzhia and Dnipropetrovsk regions.Dnipropetrovsk region withstands the assaultIt is in the Dnipropetrovsk region that the Ukrainian army is defending best. Here, control zones in autumn have practically not changed. Not least because of the extensive system of rivers, which in autumn became a natural defensive barrier. Russian attempts to force the Vovcha River in the Novopavlivka direction are currently failing. A few weeks ago, using fog, Russians were able to travel more than 10 km and fly into Novopavlivka. However, most of the Russian forces were destroyed then, although individual Russian soldiers are still hiding somewhere in basements trying to survive. One way or another, they have no new reinforcements. At least not yet. Because fog season has only begun, and undoubtedly Russian forces will try again. Moreover, they have already created a small bridgehead for themselves on the right bank of the Vovcha, in the area of Dachne village.
On the other hand, recently the Armed Forces of Ukraine completely cleared a similar bridgehead in Ivanivka village and are moving toward the gray zone on the outskirts of Filiia village. Thus, Ukraine aims to restore the front line along the river and prevent breakthroughs deep into Dnipropetrovsk region. In the vicinity of Pokrovske, on the Oleksandrivka front, although Russian forces have marked their presence near almost all key settlements, such as Orestopil, Oleksiivka and Novooleksandrivka, for over a month they have not been able to conduct a real offensive here. Therefore, the front has frozen, awaiting resolution near Pokrovsk and Huliaipole. These sections will also determine the course of events on the Dnipropetrovsk front. The maps were created based on information received from the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ General Staff, as well as from other open and verified sources. At the same time, the maps are not maximally accurate and only conditionally reflect trends in the combat zone.
