First, the United States continues to work towards ending the war. Like it or not, America has the tools to influence the outcome – from large-scale military aid to sanctions and negotiations. Imagine the current situation without American involvement, and it becomes clear why.Second, peace will not come quickly. Most likely, many more rounds of negotiations are ahead before any truce. For comparison: the Korean War lasted 3 years, two of which were negotiations. Therefore, President Zelenskyy's constant hints at "quick peace" only create unrealistic expectations. After "two or three weeks maximum," heard in 2022, this should have stopped. At the same time, even unsuccessful rounds of negotiations gradually bring positions closer. They are still far from an agreement, but they already differ from what was voiced a year ago."It is obvious that the war will only stop when Putin decides that its continuation yields no results or the price has become too high. Given the current balance of power, neither side is capable of inflicting a strategic defeat on the other. The West could have helped turn the tide, but for various reasons, it did not."In a war of attrition, victory goes not to the one who seizes more territory, but to the one who endures longer. Therefore, the strategy of warfare, about which Zaluzhnyi writes, must take into account the nature of such a war and become part of a broader victory strategy – with an emphasis on resources, sanctions policy, and the value of a soldier's life. The speed of ending hostilities depends on Ukraine's ability to implement this strategy.SourceAbout the author.
