Details: French President Emmanuel Macron stepped out early onto the steps of the Élysée Palace and walked down to greet Zelenskyy on his arrival. After pausing for photographs, the two leaders went inside.
The meeting started almost an hour late; the media had initially announced it for 10:00 Paris time (11:00 Kyiv time).
The Élysée Palace had earlier said that the leaders will exchange views on the conditions for a just and lasting peace, building on discussions in Geneva, the US "peace plan" and close coordination with European partners.
They will also address security guarantees for Ukraine within the Coalition of the Willing.
Background:
- The meeting is taking place the day after talks in Florida between Ukrainian and US teams on possible parameters of a peace agreement to end the Russo-Ukrainian war.
- Zelenskyy's visit is happening just two weeks after his previous trip, when an agreement providing for the purchase of up to 100 Rafale fighter jets for Ukraine was signed.
- Zelenskyy has also announced that Ukraine will be able to receive eight SAMP-T air defence systems from France.
