Quote: "We received a request from our volunteer friends in Donetsk Oblast regarding this dog. She had spent a month on the fourth floor, trapped in the building after the strike. The State Emergency Service no longer enters the town. Viva was left with absolutely no help."
Details: When the volunteers arrived, they found all the staircases destroyed. The only way to reach the dog was from the roof, via another entrance.
To carry out the rescue safely, the volunteers asked the military for support. They had to descend from the roof on ropes into the room where the dog was trapped.
"We named her Viva – in honour of the victory of life. She is a girl. To survive a month without hope of rescue, without people, and then be so joyful and grateful when finally saved – that is the victory of life," the volunteers said.
Viva is now recovering at the Animal Rescue Kharkiv centre and waiting for a new family.
Previously: On 20 November, emergency workers rescued a parrot from under the rubble in a nine-storey building in Ternopil hit by a Russian missile.
