Details: Sybiha was asked to comment on an earlier announcement by Andrii Yermak, Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, that US Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll is set to travel to Kyiv this week to finalise steps aimed at ending the war in Ukraine.
Quote: "A meeting of the negotiating teams should be expected."
More details: Sybiha stressed that Ukraine anticipates concrete results.
He also underlined that the Ukrainian side is interested in engagements at the highest level, specifically a meeting between President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his US counterpart Donald Trump.
Quote: "There are issues, the most sensitive issues, that can only be discussed at the leaders' level."
Background:
- On 25 November, Trump said he has instructed Special Envoy Witkoff and US Army Secretary Dan Driscoll to finalise the terms of the "peace deal" between Russia and Ukraine. Witkoff will travel to Moscow, and if the process reaches the final stage, Trump will meet with Putin and Zelenskyy.
- NYT also reported earlier that during his visit to Kyiv to hand over the 28-point "peace plan", Driscoll warned European diplomats that the missile threat from Russia extends beyond Ukraine, thereby promoting a swift settlement of the war.
