Ukraine’s National Security Council secretary denies approving new US peace deal, says consultations ongoing

Rustem Umierov, Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine (NSDC), has denied approving a new US peace deal, stressing that the Ukrainian authorities are carefully reviewing proposals from partners within the framework of Ukraine's unchanged principles.

Details : Umierov said that while work with the US delegation is ongoing in Kyiv, various assumptions about the content of the consultations have begun to appear in the public domain.
He added that during his trip to the United States he performed a strictly technical task – organising meetings and preparing for dialogue.
"I have not given any assessments, let alone approved any points. This is not within my scope of responsibility and does not correspond to the established procedure," Umierov stressed.
On 20 November, President Zelenskyy held talks with the US delegation authorised by President Trump. This work is now continuing in Kyiv at a technical level between the teams. The Ukrainian side is carefully studying all proposals from its partners and expects the same respectful approach to Ukraine's position, Umierov added.
Quote : "Media reports about alleged 'approvals' or 'removal of clauses' have nothing to do with reality. These are examples of unverified information that arose outside the context of the consultations.
We are carefully reviewing partners' proposals within Ukraine's unchanging principles – sovereignty, the safety of our people, and a just peace."
Background : The New York Post reported that a new "peace deal" from Trump – which would require Ukraine to give up its territories and reduce its armed forces – had supposedly received "positive feedback" from Ukraine's NSDC Secretary Rustem Umierov.
