He stated this during a conference in Vilnius on November 17, as reported by European Pravda."The most important questions for the European Union and for NATO are how to protect the Baltics and what to learn from Ukraine. The urgency of the first question comes from public statements by our intelligence services, including those from Germany, Denmark, Finland, the Netherlands, and from our (Baltic - ed.) region, that Putin may be ready to test Article 5 within the next two or four years, by 2030," Kubilius emphasized. He clarified that in the case of aggression against the Baltic states, it would mean an attack not only on a specific country but on the entire Alliance and the EU."This would also be an aggression against all of NATO and against the entire European Union. I would like to recall the recent well-known book If Russia Wins: A Scenario by Carlo Masala, a well-known German analyst and professor at the Bundeswehr University, which presents a threatening scenario in which the Alliance could not agree on how to react when Narva was occupied. I do not want to dwell on this scenario by Carlo Masala, but the defense of the Baltics means being prepared for different scenarios," stressed the European Commissioner. In addition, Kubilius recalled Article 42(7) of the EU Treaty, which provides for mutual assistance between member states in the event of armed aggression and is, by some estimates, even stronger than NATO's Article 5.Earlier this month, Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned that Russia is fully capable of opening a second front against another European country even before the war in Ukraine is over.
