Details : When asked how many years it would take to adopt all the legislation required as part of the accession process, Korniienko said:
"It will become clearer after the government approves the national adaptation programme, which is currently being developed. But from what I already understand about this programme, it will take at least two to three years of very intensive work. So the year 2028, as mentioned by the European Commission, seems quite realistic to me."
He added that Ukraine must also "work on its mistakes" and draw conclusions from the stages it has already completed.
Background :
- According to the European Commission's report, Ukraine is continuing to make progress in implementing key reforms on its path to EU membership despite the ongoing war with Russia.
- The 2025 Enlargement Report also gives a positive assessment of Ukraine's reform progress.
- Meanwhile, Taras Kachka, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, has said that, based on the current pace of Ukraine's reforms, Kyiv has a realistic chance of completing its EU accession talks by 2028.
