Chief of the Belgian General Staff Frédéric Vansina announced the decision, according to Belga News Agency.Vansina said Belgium’s drone-defense program is being accelerated and that a corresponding plan will soon be presented to the government.Currently, Belgium’s resources to counter unidentified drones — including detection equipment, jammers and anti-drone rifles — are limited.Vansina said that if more drones appear over military bases, the military will shoot them down.“The order has been given to shoot them down,” he said on Monday during a ceremony for the arrival of a new mine hunter in Zeebrugge.Drones may only be shot down if it can be done safely “without causing collateral damage,” he added. The commander explained this is not easy, given that drones fly at night, are small and highly maneuverable.
