Russian opposition politician Mark Feygin said this on Espreso TV.“Why can’t Washington and Beijing reach an agreement on the war in Europe — the war in Ukraine? Because China wants a high price for its involvement in a settlement. It wants both the process and China’s role and status in it to be significant. That is, to decide on the war in Ukraine and all its consequences for Europe and the West on an equal footing with Washington. What does China want? China wants Taiwan. They want the Americans to give up Taiwan. This means ending U.S. military aid to Taipei and stopping the informal defense pact between Taipei and Washington, which includes mutual assistance. Under this pact, the U.S. not only supplies weapons but guarantees Taiwan’s security and sovereignty: if it is attacked, the U.S. must intervene militarily to prevent its destruction, occupation, or reintegration into mainland China,” Feygin explained. He stressed that the United States cannot and will not stop supporting Taiwan — something even President Donald Trump has repeatedly stated.“Beijing is precisely seeking this, and that’s what Washington cannot concede. Senator Rubio, ahead of Trump’s visit to Malaysia, also said the U.S. would not halt its support for Taiwan. And Trump has repeatedly affirmed that Taiwan remains within Washington’s sphere of interest and will continue to receive support,” Feygin concluded. On October 30, talks took place in South Korea between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping, during which they discussed trade relations between the world’s two largest economies, as well as the situation in Ukraine.Diplomat Roman Bezsmertnyi told Espreso that the key topic of the Trump–Xi meeting was economic and trade relations between the U.S. and China, while the war in Ukraine was not discussed in substance.
