By the end of this year, an additional 100 critical infrastructure facilities will be reinforced with protective measures in Ukraine.
Source: Oleksii Kuleba, Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration of Ukraine and Minister for Communities and Territories Development, during a press conference.
Quote from Kuleba: "Over the past two weeks, the Restoration Agency has been performing a coordinating role among all agencies responsible for protection. Together, we have identified a list of priority facilities that require additional physical protection – these are 100 facilities that will be reinforced by the end of the year."
Details: The minister noted that the protection of the energy sector is a continuous, cross-sectoral effort involving multiple bodies – the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry for Communities and Territories Development, oblast military administrations, energy and gas companies, and the Armed Forces.
The minister emphasised that the responsibility for the physical protection of facilities lies with their owners or balance holders. As for the projects whose additional protection is being coordinated by the Restoration Agency this year, they were selected based on priorities determined jointly by the oblast military administrations, balance holders, and the Ministry of Energy.
Quote from Kuleba: "Under an experimental project launched in 2023, the Restoration Agency was responsible for protecting 22 Ukrenergo facilities across 14 oblasts. This involved 46 protective elements, 38 of which have been completed in full, while the remaining 8 – with an average completion rate of about 90% – will be finished by the end of the year."
