Danish PM: Putin's strategy is to wait for West to give up, but it never happens

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has stated that Russia is showing no signs of being ready for peace and that Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin's strategy is based on waiting for the West to grow tired and stop supporting Ukraine. She has stressed that this will never happen and that allies will only strengthen their support for Kyiv.

Details: Frederiksen believes that Putin's recent phone call to US President Donald Trump shows his fear of a strong Ukraine.
Quote: "It was Putin that called President Trump some days ago because he was scared that Ukraine would get the upper hand. Yet he rejected Trump's proposal for a ceasefire along the current front lines, a suggestion that we support, and the same goes for you and Ukraine. But Putin doesn't want to stop the killings. There is no indication that Russia and Putin want peace, not even a ceasefire."
Details: Frederiksen stated that, in response to the continuation of aggression and Russia's hybrid war against the West, the Coalition of the Willing has agreed on coordinated measures to intensify pressure on Moscow.
"Today, the Coalition of the Willing, we have agreed to increase the pressure on Russia, agreed that we must find long-term financing of Ukraine's ability to keep fighting, boost Ukraine's defence industry with European financing, finance much needed US weapons, and to put more pressure on Putin's weak economy with new sanctions," she said.
Frederiksen highlighted significant steps taken this week, including the EU's 19th sanctions package targeting Russia's energy sector and its shadow fleet of tankers and sanctions by the United States and the United Kingdom against two of Russia's largest oil companies.
"I think Putin's strategy has been to wait for us to stop at some point, to give up, but of course this will never happen," she stressed.
She noted that the allies remain united in their efforts and reaffirmed the promise to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, to Ukraine and to all Europeans that support will continue for as long as necessary.
Background:
- Zelenskyy said that despite Russian claims that the latest sanctions will not affect them, they are still a crushing blow for Putin.
- NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated that Putin is running out of resources to continue the war against Ukraine.
- Earlier, it was reported that the defence industry, which had become the main driving force of Russia's economy due to trillions in state defence spending, has suddenly shown signs of decline.
