Quote : "We cancelled the meeting with President Putin. It just didn't feel right to me. It didn't feel like we were going to get to the place we have to get. So I canceled it, but we'll do it in the future."
Details: Trump also commented on the possible supply of Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine. He said that it would take at least six months of training.
Quote: "It'll take a minimum of six months, usually a year, to learn how to use them. They're highly complex. So, the only way a Tomahawk is going to be shot is if we [the US] shot it. And we're not going to do that."
Background:
- Russia's rejection of an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine has cast doubt on the planned Budapest meeting between Trump and Putin.
- An unnamed White House official told reporters that the US no longer sees the need for a meeting between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, which had been planned as part of preparations for the leader-level summit.
