Journalist Vitaly Portnikov shared his opinions with Espreso TV.“Trump will agree to go to Budapest only if American and Russian officials reach specific agreements that can be publicly announced. It won’t be like Anchorage, where they came out and Trump said there was no agreement. In this case, Putin will have to take concrete steps; otherwise, there will be no meeting. And if there is no meeting, then the question of supplying Ukraine with Tomahawk missiles and other long-range weapons,” Portnikov explained.According to the journalist, Tomahawk missiles cannot change the course of the fighting. However, they can put Russian oil refineries out of action for many years."Now about Tomahawk missiles as a trigger. I think Putin is right after all. Tomahawk missiles alone will not change the situation on the battlefield. Moreover, we do not even understand from what installations they will be launched. However, the issue is not only about these missiles, but also about the fact that the U.S. decision to provide Tomahawk missiles paves the way for Washington and other NATO allies to provide Ukraine with weapons of a different quality that can reach Moscow and other targets in Russia. In other words, if these missiles hit an oil refinery, it will take several weeks to repair it. This is exactly what Putin would like to prevent — the development of events in the direction of such an escalation. After all, this will undoubtedly be a new level of escalation in the Russian-Ukrainian war," he added. On Thursday, October 16, U.S. President Donald Trump held a phone conversation with Putin, during which they agreed to meet in Budapest.
