Volodymyr Khandohiy, diplomat and president of the Ukrainian Foreign Policy Association, stated this on Espreso TV."The initiative for this conversation belongs to Trump. I don't think that Putin was frightened by the statements made in recent days and suddenly decided to initiate a conversation with Trump. This fits within the framework of the approach that, supposedly, Putin can somehow be persuaded.Trump, even if he expresses some disappointment with Putin, will ultimately say: 'He's a good guy, I have a great relationship with him, I'll explain it to him now — and he will stop this war.' In other words, Trump does not realize that Putin will not stop the war this way. The only path that can force him to do so is to flood Ukraine with weapons and continue military pressure on the aggressor," Khandohiy emphasized. The diplomat added that this will be another "stern warning" from Trump, and he hopes it will influence Putin."Trump still hasn't understood that there is nothing left to talk about with Putin — it's time to act. He will be convinced of this once again and will likely proceed with implementing the statements that have come from Washington in recent days," noted Khandohiy. On Thursday, October 16, U.S. President Donald Trump will speak by phone with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin ahead of Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy's visit to Washington.
