Ukrainian diplomat Roman Bezsmertnyi shared his opinions with Espreso TV.“You can only talk about the Tomahawk as a kind of 'code word' — to signal that supplies should come from European countries. It’s important for our European partners in the missile issue to recognize that this ‘code word’ has been spoken, meaning there’s an opening for Tomahawks, which in turn paves the way for TAURUS and others. In 2024 and 2025, all three European missile models — Storm Shadow, SCALP, and TAURUS — underwent modifications that increased their range and destructive power. It’s not customary to talk about it, but it’s true. Tests of these upgraded missiles proved they can strike from much greater distances,” the diplomat said.According to him, France and Germany argue that European funds should stay in Europe, raising the question of whether it is necessary to buy missiles from the U.S. when there are countries in Europe capable of producing such systems.“If what is claimed in official publications is true, it would be cheaper than purchasing from the U.S. However, I want to reiterate the technological parameters of these European-made missiles — if they reach 2,500 km and have a yield equivalent to 1,000 tonnes of TNT, then they would be an excellent specimen to compete with the Tomahawk,” Bezsmertnyi noted. On Monday, October 13, U.S. President Donald Trump said he might provide Ukraine with Tomahawk missiles if Russian leader Vladimir Putin does not stop the war.
