Dutch Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans made the announcement ahead of the North Atlantic Council meeting of defense ministers.Brekelmans stated that the Netherlands would allocate the funds to help boost Ukraine’s domestic drone manufacturing capabilities. He noted that this new package follows an earlier announcement of €200 million in support for countering enemy UAVs, emphasizing that the Netherlands is doing more than ever for Ukraine. The defense minister explained that Ukraine’s industry still has the capacity to produce more, which is why his government decided to invest an additional €90 million to strengthen drone production. He also said that President Vladimir Putin believes he is gaining an advantage as the war continues, and that NATO and its partners must ensure the costs for Russia keep rising. According to Brekelmans, this requires a steady flow of aid and long-term commitments to Ukraine’s defense sector. The minister added that these efforts would involve both bilateral agreements and broader initiatives, including the possible use of frozen Russian assets.Brekelmans expressed confidence that through continued sanctions and economic pressure, Moscow would eventually be forced to recognize that it cannot sustain its aggression and that the West, together with Ukraine, would ultimately prevail.Finland and Lithuania have decided to join the PURL initiative, which involves purchasing weapons from the United States for transfer to Ukraine.
