Finland’s Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen announced the decision in Brussels.According to the minister, in the coming weeks Finland will work on the details of its contribution to the initiative.“Ukraine’s defense critically depends on specific U.S. military supplies. The US has stated that the financial responsibility for the war being fought in Europe is shifting to Europe. Therefore, European countries must now secure funding for these essential U.S. weapons,” Häkkänen said.He added that Finland “will shoulder its share of responsibility.”“And we expect the same from other European nations. It is particularly in the interest of Europe and the frontline states that this support to Ukraine continues,” concluded Finland’s Defence Minister. In addition, Espreso journalist Tetiana Vysotska noted that currently seven countries are part of the PURL initiative: Germany, Canada, the Netherlands, Slovenia, Denmark, Norway, and Sweden with Finland and Lithuania joining the effort next.“Ukraine needs substantive military assistance, in particular, the provision of air defense systems and missiles for them. In this context, the PURL initiative is being discussed today—a priority list of Ukraine's military needs, which provides for the purchase of American weapons for Ukraine by European partners and Canada,” Vysotskaya noted. “Today, Finland’s Defence Minister announced that their country is joining this initiative. Lithuania’s Defence Minister also stated that Lithuania is joining PURL.”On October 13, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said seven more countries are ready to join NATO’s PURL initiative, which procures U.S. weapons for Ukraine.
