Russia increases LNG exports to test Trump – Bloomberg

A liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant in Russia's Arctic region that is under US sanctions has continued fuel shipments.

Details: The Arctic LNG 2 export plant, sanctioned by the Biden administration in 2023 following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, has loaded its tenth shipment since late June.
Previous shipments were delivered to a single port in southern China or to storage facilities in Russia's Far East.
Although trade tensions between Washington and Beijing have flared again in recent days, the United States has so far refrained from tightening restrictions on sanctioned Russian LNG.
Ship tracking data shows that since August, eight vessels carrying sanctioned Russian LNG have arrived at China's Beihai terminal.
These Arctic LNG 2 cargoes were the first to reach a foreign port. By choosing a port with limited international exposure, Beijing may be seeking to shield its gas sector from potential sanctions.
Last summer, Arctic LNG 2 produced eight shipments but was forced to shut down in October after struggling to find buyers – some importers sought to avoid US sanctions – while seasonal ice began to build up around the facility. The vessels later unloaded their cargoes at storage sites in Russia.
Background: Türkiye could cover more than half of its gas needs by the end of 2028 through increased domestic production and greater imports from the United States, threatening to narrow the last major European market available to Russian and Iranian suppliers.
