Poland says cyberattacks on critical infrastructure are on rise, Russia is to blame

Poland's critical infrastructure is facing an increasing number of cyberattacks from Russia, whose military intelligence service has tripled its resources for such actions against Poland this year.

Details: Of the 170,000 cyber incidents recorded in the first three quarters of this year, a significant portion are attributed to Russian actors; other cases are financially motivated — theft or other types of cybercrime, Gawkowski said.
According to Gawkowski, Poland faces 2,000–4,000 incidents per day, and 700–1,000 "are taken up by us, meaning they posed a real threat or had the potential to cause serious problems".
Hostile states are expanding their focus beyond water supply and sanitation to include energy, he added.
The minister did not provide exact figures on Russia's activity and was unable to comment on Russia's methods in Polish cyberspace. Data on the growth of its involvement came from Polish intelligence services.
Officials in Warsaw say that Poland is Russia's main target among NATO countries because it strongly supports Ukraine; the Kremlin has repeatedly tried to undermine its national security.
"Russian activity is the most severe because it targets critical infrastructure essential to maintaining normal life," Gawkowski said.
