Details: Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský tweeted that the night attack on 9-10 October once again demonstrates "'Russkij mir' in practice". [The "Russian world" or "Russkyi Mir" is the general idea of the superiority of Russian Orthodoxy, culture, language, etc., widely promoted by pro-Kremlin figures – ed.]
He added, "After a Russian attack on Ukraine, 28,000 households were left without electricity, water supplies were cut off, homes are burning, civilians injured, and a seven-year-old boy killed. "
Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen pointed out that large-scale strikes on energy infrastructure have begun as winter is approaching.
"A young boy was killed and dozens of civilians were injured in a strike last night. Russia must be held accountable. We stand with Ukraine," she tweeted.
Rather than posting himself, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski shared a tweet with images of Kyiv's streets, blackened after Russian forces struck a thermal power plant.
"I strongly condemn Russia's massive & calculated attack, one of the heaviest strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure since the war began," wrote Hadja Lahbib, European Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management, adding that Ukraine can count on the EU's help.
Background:
- EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarína Mathernová has said that Russian strikes on energy facilities in Ukraine are war crimes that cannot be forgiven.
- On 10 October, G7 ambassadors gathered for an emergency meeting in Kyiv due to Russia's strikes on Ukraine's infrastructure.
