Details: The CBOS survey indicates that over the past six months, attitudes of Poles towards accepting Ukrainian refugees have slightly worsened again, continuing a trend observed – with brief interruptions – since mid-2023.
Support for accepting refugees from Ukraine in Poland has dropped to its lowest level (48%), while opposition has reached its highest (45%) since CBOS began asking this question in 2014.
Furthermore, according to the survey, most Poles now believe that the assistance offered to refugees from Ukraine is too extensive (50%), though a slightly smaller proportion of respondents consider it appropriate in scale (46%).
A majority of Poles also believe that access to benefits and services such as the 800 Plus programme or free medical care should be granted only to Ukrainians who work and pay taxes in Poland (58%).
One in four respondents said that, in addition to working and paying taxes in Poland, Ukrainians receiving such benefits should also hold refugee status (25%). One in twelve believes that Ukrainians in Poland should not have access to such benefits at all (8%).
Background: Earlier surveys in Poland showed that the share of those opposing Ukraine's accession to the EU and NATO is now higher than that of supporters.
