Denmark's military intelligence service has accused Russian warships of repeated aggressive actions in the Danish straits connecting the Baltic and North Seas. The provocations included aiming weapons at Danish vessels and helicopters, conducting dangerous near-collision manoeuvres and jamming navigation systems.

Details: Against the backdrop of heightened tension in the Baltic region, linked to incidents with undersea cables and airspace violations, Denmark has reported a new series of deliberate provocations by the Russian Navy.

Thomas Ahrenkiel, Director of the Danish Defence Intelligence Service, presented concrete evidence of the Russian military's aggressive behaviour at a special press conference.
"We have seen several incidents in the Danish straits, where Danish air force helicopters and naval vessels have been targeted by tracking radars and physically pointed at with weapons from Russian warships," he said.
He believes Russian vessels also deliberately set a collision course with Danish ships as they transited the straits.
Ahrenkiel reported that one Russian warship has been anchored in Danish waters for more than a week. Intelligence services see this as a signal from Moscow that it is prepared to use force if Denmark attempts to restrict the movement of Russia's shadow fleet – tankers used to bypass Western sanctions on oil exports.
In addition, intelligence registered Russian ships passing through the straits with active sonar and electronic warfare equipment. Ahrenkiel said it was "highly probable" that in at least one case these activities were the cause of significant GPS disruptions in Denmark.
"Russia is using military means, including in an aggressive way, to put pressure on us without crossing the line into armed conflict in a traditional sense," he concluded, describing these actions as part of Russia's hybrid war against Denmark and the West.
The White House said on Friday 3 October that it takes reports of Russian naval provocations against Denmark very seriously.
"The National Security Council here at the White House is in constant correspondence with our NATO allies, and the president speaks to many of them as well," White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters.
Background: The Telegraph recently published an analysis of the route of the Boracay tanker, part of Russia's shadow fleet. Its movement through the Baltic Sea suspiciously coincided with the dates of sightings of unidentified drones over strategic sites in Denmark and Germany.
