Drones attacked the town of Kirishi in Russia's Leningrad Oblast on the night of 3-4 October, hitting one of the country's largest oil refineries – Kirishi Refinery. Local residents reported on social media that the Kirishi Refinery had been targeted. Kirishi Refinery is located more than 800 km from the Ukrainian border and is one of Russia's largest oil refineries. It is situated in the town of Kirishi in Leningrad Oblast and is a subsidiary of Surgutneftegas. The plant has a processing capacity of over 10 million tonnes of crude oil per year and produces a wide range of petroleum products, including petrol, diesel fuel, aircraft fuel and others. Kirishi Oil Refinery supplies a significant part of Russia's fuel needs and is an important element of the country's energy infrastructure. Background: This is not the first successful attack on the plant. On 8 March, Kirishi Refinery was already targeted by drones, with Russian authorities admitting that one of the UAVs hit a storage tank.
