Ignotas Adomavičius, Lithuanian Minister of Culture from the far-right Nemunas Dawn party, has said a question about the legal status of Crimea is provocative and refused to answer it. He announced his resignation following pressure from Lithuanian Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė.

Details: Adomavičius said he was stepping down not because of his personal mistakes but due to external pressure that he said threatened his family's safety.

The minister reportedly once again struggled to present his ideas logically: he thanked an unspecified community, referred to pressure on his family and ultimately took satisfaction in having drawn attention to culture.
The controversy flared when a journalist from lrytas.lt, a Lithuanian news portal, asked Adomavičius about the status of Ukrainian Crimea, which is temporarily occupied by Russia.
Quote: "These are provocative questions, it's better to avoid them, since it is not about the ministry of culture…
Let's not play these games. You understand, there is a line we should not cross. This is where we need to stop. On these questions."
Background:
Protests have recently taken place in Lithuania against the appointment of Adomavičius, who represents the Nemunas Dawn party, as minister of culture. Questions were raised about the politician's competence, alongside criticism of his remarks following a meeting with the president.
The opposition in the Lithuanian parliament has called on Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė to explain the decision to appoint Adomavičius for the position.
A warning strike in Lithuania's cultural and arts sector is scheduled for Tuesday 5 October.
