American diplomat William Taylor, former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine, said this in an interview with Antin Borkovskyi, host of the Studio West program on Espreso TV."I am convinced that the scale of support for Ukraine will increase significantly. This could accelerate sharply very soon, as there have been significant developments in the last week. Progress has recently been made on the issue of the $300 billion in Russian Central Bank assets frozen in Western banks in Europe and the U.S. since February 2022. These $300 billion can become a key source of funding, necessary both for providing arms and for the reconstruction of Ukraine," the diplomat commented.According to him, there is an intensification of work within the European Union. Ursula von der Leyen has put forward a strong proposal, which seems to be gaining broad support, to create a mechanism for using these funds in a way that will avoid the legal obstacles that have so far prevented the U.S. and Europe from using them. So these $300 billion are truly crucial."To date, the U.S. has provided Ukraine with about $69 billion in arms, as well as even more in the form of economic and budgetary support. Even if we only consider the $69 billion in military aid, this is significantly less than the potential $300 billion. This is a resource that can provide stable funding for years to come. Thanks to these funds, Ukrainians will be able to both purchase weapons from the U.S., support their own economy, and begin reconstruction after the end of hostilities in the coming years. Therefore, I am convinced that the volume of available financial resources for arms and reconstruction will increase sharply in the near future. And the events of the last week confirm that there is real progress in this direction," Taylor summarized.Earlier, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, stated that even in the event of a ceasefire, Russia should not be allowed to reclaim its frozen assets in the European Union until it pays reparations to Ukraine.
