Reuters reported the information.Major General Vincent Chusseau, head of the French Space Command, says that since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, there has been a significant increase in the number of incidents involving the destruction of satellites.According to him, “adversaries, especially Russia, have diversified methods of disrupting satellites, with activity such as jamming, lasers and cyberattacks having become commonplace.”The major general believes that the war in Ukraine has shown that space has become a fully-fledged operational domain.France, which is Europe's largest investor in the space sector, accused Moscow in 2018 of attempting to spy on a Franco-Italian military satellite by maneuvering a spacecraft near it.The Kremlin, for its part, claims that Western countries are waging a large-scale hybrid war against Russia, including propaganda, cyberattacks, and intelligence operations. Moscow also denies U.S. claims that it has placed weapons in orbit capable of detecting and attacking other satellites. The outlet added that the U.S., Canada, and the U.K. have joined France in publicly warning of growing threats to satellites that are critical to the functioning of the military and the economy, from banking to energy management. In March, eight European countries, including Ukraine, submitted a complaint to the UN over Russia’s repeated interference with European satellite communications, calling for an immediate end to such actions.
