Spokesperson for the Ukrainian Navy Dmytro Pletenchuk shared the information on Espreso TV.“I don’t know what new air defense system the Russians could still deploy in Crimea. They already had all the air defense assets there. The Russians concentrated S-500 Prometheus (Prometey) there long ago. For them, Crimea is and remains an important location in every sense. In particular, it holds strategic and geopolitical significance. Russia will cling to the peninsula until the very end. They are reinforcing Crimea’s air defenses much more than their own oil refineries. Still, that can wait, because until ground forces reach it, there can be no talk of de-occupation,” Pletenchuk said.According to him, despite Russia saturating Crimea with air defense systems, the Ukrainian Armed Forces continue striking Russian military facilities.“For now, Ukraine’s Defense Forces can use their resources to reduce Russia’s capabilities in the rear. The oil refining sector is exactly such a target for the Russians, as it generates revenue for the budget and enables them to wage war. Indeed, the Russians have a very dense air defense network in Crimea. However, this does not mean their systems remain vigilant at all times, strikes still reach there periodically,” he added. On the night of September 11, the Ukrainian Navy struck a communications hub of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in the temporarily occupied Crimea.
