Diplomat Valeriy Chaly, Chairman of the Ukrainian Crisis Media Center and Ukraine’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, shared this view on Espreso.“Regarding Russian drones in Polish territory, in my view, this is a special combined operation, partly military and partly informational-psychological. It seems to me that the informational-psychological element was much stronger. Attempts like this have been made before to test the capabilities of air defense systems and control measures, so the Russians generally know the situation. But to test it in a way that matches the threat, a massive attack is needed. I am confident this is not a test or a provocation — it is the first part of real actions aimed at attacking NATO and EU countries,” emphasized Valeriy Chaly.According to him, a similar situation occurred in Ukraine, which was then called a hybrid attack. The goal of Russia’s informational-psychological operation, led by Putin, is to provide historical narratives about how Poland came to exist on its territories, that Poland was once part of the Russian Empire, and that Poland received many “gifts” in the form of territories.“Russia conducted extensive informational operations in both Ukraine and Poland to create tension between countries and people. Currently, there is debate in Poland about whether to keep weapons at the border with Ukraine, and discussions are ongoing about ending the war and having Ukraine capitulate. But among the Polish people, there is an understanding that this would lead to a land war reaching them. Unfortunately, such informational tactics work. In Ukraine, everyone fell for the Russian narrative that NATO is incapable. We remember how much was thrown at us in the first days of the full-scale invasion. The Poles are now in a similar situation, just at an earlier stage before an invasion,” the diplomat noted. In his view, the next step, after the Russians observe and assess the results of the drone flights over Poland, will be actions. Russia is likely to scale up this operation, following its usual approach — covering previous moves with the next escalation. It is worth recalling that first there was the annexation of Crimea, followed by the seizure of Donbas, and then the full-scale invasion.“And now, with the Russians bogged down in their summer campaign, they need to raise the stakes — either through full mobilization in Russia or via hybrid methods targeting NATO countries. My forecast is that there will be further actions, and they will be directed against NATO countries,” Chaly concluded.Russian drones in Polish airspace.
