Serhiy Zgurets, director of the media and consulting company Defense Express, stated this during an Espreso TV broadcast.“Pokrovsk and Dobropillia are at the center of attention both for the enemy and for our Defense Forces. Today, September 12, army chief Syrskyi was on the Dobropillia axis, meeting with the command of the 1st NGU Azov Corps, which is defending Dobropillia. There, the enemy pushed forward in two ‘horns’ for 15 km. Active operations are underway, and the base of these ‘horns’ is now being cut off. The Armed Forces of Ukraine are conducting counterattacks from both the north and south along the Kazennyi Torets River to slice off this foothold. It sounds optimistic, but we know the situation is not that simple, because Russia is redeploying significant forces to this sector. Syrskyi said we are already destroying marine brigades,” Zgurets commented.According to him, during this time the Russian forces redeployed four marine brigades, including from Kursk region, to the Dobropillia–Pokrovsk axis. The first brigades, including the 155th, began combat operations using armored vehicles. Their equipment and manpower were destroyed by HIMARS and drones. Russia also redeployed airborne units to Donetsk and shifted troops from Kherson region to the Bakhmut area.“Now the Russians are in the stage of massing forces to further pressure our defense and create conditions for encircling Pokrovsk. I think this will be an extremely important battle of the year, because without capturing Pokrovsk the enemy simply cannot move on to Sloviansk and Kramatorsk — even with its manpower and equipment advantage.Syrskyi said the ratio of forces is 1 to 3, and in some areas 1 to 5. Still, measures are underway to destroy the occupiers. Right now, all attention is focused on this key sector of the current phase of fighting. We hope that Russia’s ambition to seize Pokrovsk will collapse just as it did last year, when they claimed they were 3 km away and could capture it.But Pokrovsk has held for a year already, as have other positions along this section of the front,” the military expert summarized.Since the start of Friday, September 12, there have been 82 combat engagements along the Russian-Ukrainian front. Defense Forces of Ukraine repelled 28 enemy attacks in the Pokrovsk sector.
