Airspace will be closed up to 6,000 meters within a 50-kilometre zone from Latvia’s external border.Defense Minister Andris Sprūds said Russia’s drone attack on Poland on September 10 “is a clear violation of NATO airspace, and Latvia must act accordingly.”“Although there is currently no direct threat to Latvia, preventive measures are necessary… Russian drones in NATO airspace are an alarm signal, and we must do everything possible to prevent an escalation of drone attacks,” he added.The defense minister said the move will, among other things, expand the ability to test acoustic air-space monitoring systems, simulate drone behavior and countermeasures, and deploy and prepare additional mobile combat units.On September 11, authorities imposed air traffic restrictions in eastern Poland, along the borders with Belarus and Ukraine.
