Oleksandr Kovalenko, Ukrainian military and political observer, discusses the issue on his Telegram channel. The observer notes that much of the current debate over the Shahed-136 drones that entered Polish airspace centers on claims that Ukraine’s electronic warfare systems were to blame. Russian platforms, in particular, are actively amplifying this narrative, pushing it into Poland’s information space through Polish-language channels and social media accounts. But, as the observer stresses, there is a nuance.“Yes, Ukraine uses electronic warfare to suppress Shahed-136 drones,” the analysis explains. “But in such cases, the drone simply loses control and continues flying in a straight line without maneuvering or changing altitude, until it either runs out of fuel, is shot down, or exits the suppression zone and reconnects with a satellite.”In contrast, the drones that violated Polish airspace “constantly maneuvered and did not attempt to return to Ukraine,” suggesting that their flight paths were programmed from the outset toward Polish territory. Moreover, the observer adds with skepticism: “Electronic warfare suppressing Shahed-136 at a range of 50 kilometers? Are you serious?”Insider information cited in the commentary suggests that the group of drones involved may have numbered over 20. “Some were destroyed by Ukrainian air defense, others managed to break through to Poland,” the observer reports. In this sense, the Ukrainian Armed Forces “protected not only Ukrainians, but also Poles — in a literal, not figurative sense.”From this perspective, Russia’s goals become clearer. According to the observer, Moscow sought to achieve several objectives simultaneously:To test NATO’s readiness and resolve. To carry out strikes on the territory of a NATO member state — for the first time in more than half a century — targeting a key logistics hub for Ukraine. To sow discord between Ukraine and Poland by blaming Kyiv for the incident.“It is not difficult to draw unambiguous conclusions from all of the above,” the commentary underlines. The observer concludes that what happened is more than a simple drone incident. It marks not only an unprecedented campaign to discredit Ukraine but also the beginning of a more active phase of Russia’s hybrid war against NATO.
