Among the samples released today are two Russian-made attack drones Geran-2 of the “Ы” series, the multipurpose UAV Corsair, and the Kh-69 cruise missile.“To continue and intensify terror against the population of Ukraine, Russia keeps modernizing its main strike systems, including the Geran-2 (Shahed-136) UAVs. In some cases, this modernization involves Iran,” the HUR noted.Experts specified that some of these drones use thermobaric warheads of Iranian origin. Previously, HUR reported on a new MS-series Shahed, likely of Iranian manufacture, which incorporated an Nvidia Jetson Orin mini-computer specialized for AI tasks and video processing. Russia also uses such computers in the V2U attack drone. In addition to Iranian components, Russia also equips its new Shaheds with domestically produced warheads featuring a cumulative penetrative core for breaching fortified targets. In both cases, target detonation is triggered by contact sensors.“In some UAVs, warheads were observed with metal ball fragments and the capability for non-contact detonation using signals from optical sensors (laser rangefinder, LiDAR) at a predetermined distance from the target. In these cases, the SF20 laser rangefinder from the South African company LightWare was used,” HUR reported. In August, drones of the Geran-2 type were observed carrying payloads on external wing-mounted pylons.
