Veteran of the Russian-Ukrainian war and National Guard reserve major Oleksii Hetman shared the information on Espreso TV.“When we hear about an increase in Russian troops in any direction, it doesn’t come from reserves deep within Russia but from the redeployment of forces along the front line. In other words, the total number of Russian troops doesn’t increase, roughly 700,000 personnel, as reported by Ukraine's Defense Intelligence. Unfortunately, this number remains constant because we destroy about 30,000 Russian soldiers each month, which is roughly the same number Russia can mobilize,” commented National Guard reserve major Oleksii Hetman. He added that the German outlet Bild had earlier reported Russia mobilized 150,000 servicemen in the first half of 2025. This means about 25,000 troops per month — approximately the same number the Ukrainian Defense Forces eliminate on the battlefield each month.“Accordingly, the good news is that the Russian army isn’t growing, and the bad news is that it isn’t decreasing significantly. We keep destroying them, yet their numbers remain at about 700,000,” the war veteran concluded. On September 7, Ukraine’s General Staff reported that the Russian army lost 910 troops in one day. Total estimated combat losses of Russian personnel from February 24, 2022, to September 8, 2025, amount to approximately 1,089,060.
